Peace & Quiet

We had a double helping of quiet yesterday thanks to beautiful weather and an InterWeb outage. I could spend the time I usually spend riding herd over the adolescents at the computers helping parents do their kids' research/homework for them.

How much help did they need?

Quite a bit. I am amazed at how much junior high or high school research is done by the parents. In my day (back when the earth's crust was still cooling and we had to walk blah blah blah) parents didn't do such things. I remember asking my father for math help in junior high. He told me that he had learned it all once and had forgotten it all, but he had gotten decent grades and did it all by himself and that now it was my turn. I was also instructed to ask somebody who was getting his tax money to help me since it was their job. So I'm always a bit amazed when I see mom or dad wanting a book about the warble-throated spam catcher or some other oddball bird.

I looooove it when the public InterWeb goes down! The library is so very peaceful, apart from people asking when the InterWeb will be back up (that goes with your Things That Are Not My Fault list).
